Program description
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), in conjunction with The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seek to continue support for the Infrastructure for the Strategies to Innovate EmeRgENcy Care Clinical Trials Network (SIREN). The SIREN Network performs clinical trials that impact the care of individuals with a non-stroke neurological and cardiovascular emergency in the pre-hospital or emergency department setting. The goal of SIREN is to improve the outcomes by identifying effective treatments given in the earliest stages of care. The program will encourage applications for a clinical coordinating center (CCC) and data coordinating center (DCC) to support the NIH SIREN clinical trial network.
Applications are not being solicited at this time. This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive applications for centers.

💡 Tips for applicants
- Start building collaborations with emergency care providers now. Strong pre-existing partnerships strengthen your application significantly.
- Emphasize your organization's trial management track record. Document success managing multi-site, complex clinical trials.
- Detail your data infrastructure and security protocols clearly. Coordinating centers must handle sensitive patient data reliably.
- Align your center's goals directly with SIREN's mission. Show how your expertise improves outcomes for emergency neurological and cardiovascular patients.
- Reach out to NIH program officers early. They can clarify expectations before the March 2027 deadline.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications lack demonstrated capacity to manage large multi-site clinical trials. Weak data infrastructure or cybersecurity plans undermine competitiveness. Failure to articulate clear partnerships with emergency care networks nationally.
