💡 Tips for applicants
- Focus your application on specific, measurable security gaps your intercity bus operations currently face and how funding will address them directly.
- Demonstrate clear connections between your project and DHS/FEMA's counter-terrorism priorities for transportation infrastructure.
- Include detailed cost-sharing commitments upfront; reviewers expect significant organizational investment alongside federal funds.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency management agencies to strengthen your application's credibility.
- Document existing security measures and explain why proposed improvements are necessary and feasible within the grant period.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications fail when applicants lack clear security threat assessment or don't explain how project outcomes prevent terrorism. Cost-sharing commitments that seem unrealistic or poorly documented weaken competitiveness. Vague descriptions of security improvements without specific timelines, budgets, or measurable outcomes get rejected.
