💡 Tips for applicants
- Emphasize your tribe's specific homeland security vulnerabilities and past hazard experience. Document demonstrated need clearly.
- Align activities with DHS's four pillars: prevention, protection, response, and recovery capabilities.
- Show strong internal coordination between tribal emergency management, law enforcement, and leadership.
- Include letters of support from tribal leadership and relevant federal/state emergency management partners.
- Budget realistically and justify all costs with reference to your documented needs assessment.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications lack clear connection between proposed activities and documented tribal security gaps or hazard risks. Budgets fail to provide adequate justification for equipment and personnel costs. Weak coordination plans with state and federal emergency management agencies reduce competitiveness.
