Program Objective
The objective for NASS is to formulate, develop, and administer programs for collecting and publishing statistics related to agriculture, resources, and rural communities.
Eligibility
Eligible Applicants
- Unrestricted by Entity Type
Anyone/general public. REE Agencies may enter into a non-assistance cooperative agreements with eligible entities to further research, extension, or teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences. Eligible entities are any State agricultural experimental station, State cooperative
extension service, any college or university, other research or education institution or organization, Federal or
private agency or organization, an individual, or other party, either foreign or domestic. 7 USC 3318.

Farmers and agricultural producers, marketing and processing groups, transportation and handler groups, consumers, state and local governments, educational institutions, and the general public including those located in the U.S. Territories.

Award Procedure
Proposed awards are reviewed by agency leadership to ensure they are in line with and compliment current agency priorities and align with the Administration priorities. An agreement is awarded at the discretion of the agency on a noncompetitive basis.

Description
The mission of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is to provide timely, accurate, and useful statistics in service to the U.S. agriculture economy. The statistical data provided by NASS is essential to the public and private sectors for making effective policy, production, and marketing decisions on a wide range of agricultural commodities. The statistical data provided in NASS studies and reports is necessary to maintain an objective source to ensure commodity markets operate fairly and efficiently.

Allowed Uses
Copies of publications of estimates and reports of production, supply inventory, price and other aspects of the agricultural economy are available to anyone without restriction. Publications are provided free to survey respondents, press, Congress, and, many current publications and all data products are also available for free at http://www.nass.usda.gov. Other publications are available to all others on a subscription basis.
Restrictions
Funds provided by NASS for this program may not be used for expenses related to the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of infrastructure in the United States, unless such expenses are specifically directed by Congress.
