FY2025 $1.2M in IIJA funding has been awarded to nine projects in Appalachia. These projects have leveraged $3.3M in additional funds. In total, these projects will restore approximately 6,938 acres of formerly mined land and plant 874K new seedlings. To date, 1,167 acres have been restored and 234K trees planted.

Program Objective

Emphasis on expanding existing partnerships and the creation of new ones to initiate the reforestation of non-Federal mined land across the U.S. Increases in forestation procedures within these environmentally sensitive areas will be the basis for measuring performance.

Local Public nonprofit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education), Other private institutions/organizations.
