💡 Tips for applicants

  • Contact the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section directly before applying to understand current priorities and ensure your project aligns with mission objectives in Cambodia.
  • Emphasize partnerships with local Cambodian organizations, educational institutions, or government entities to strengthen your proposal's credibility and reach.
  • Develop clear, measurable outcomes that demonstrate impact on educational access, cultural understanding, or youth development in Cambodia.
  • Include a realistic budget that accounts for operating costs in Cambodia and provides detail on how funds will be used to achieve stated objectives.
  • Highlight your organization's prior experience managing international programs, particularly in Southeast Asia or with similar cultural exchange or educational initiatives.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Applicants often fail to clearly connect their proposed activities to U.S. foreign policy goals and embassy-specific public diplomacy priorities, resulting in misalignment with mission objectives. Another common issue is underestimating the complexity of operating programs in Cambodia—weak applications lack detailed evidence of local partnerships, implementation capacity, or understanding of the Cambodian context. Finally, many proposals lack specific, measurable outcomes or fail to demonstrate how the program will create lasting impact beyond the grant period.
