Program Objective
To increase awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault against American Indian and Alaska Native women; enhancing the response to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women at the tribal, Federal, and State levels; identifying and providing technical assistance to coalition membership and tribal communities to enhance access to essential services to American Indian women victimized by domestic and sexual violence; and assisting tribes in developing and promoting state, local, and tribal legislation and policies that enhance best practices for responding to violent crimes against Indian women.
Eligibility
Eligible Applicants
- Private nonprofits
- Native American organizations
Tribal coalitions that meet the criteria of a tribal coalition under 24 U.S.C. 13925(a), provide services to Indian tribes, and are recognized by the Office on Violence Against Women.

Tribal sexual assault and domestic violence coalitions.
How to Apply
Application Procedure
Applicants must apply through the on-line Grants.gov portal and the Department of Justice's JustGrants System.
Award Procedure
Upon approval by the Office on Violence Against Women, online notification is sent to the applicant agency. The Authorized Representative must accept the award online.
Applicants will be notified before the end of the fiscal year.

Use of Funds
Allowed Uses
Funds may be used for the following statutory program purpose areas: (A) increasing awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault against American Indian and Alaska Native women; (B) enhancing the response to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women at the tribal, Federal, and State levels; (C) identifying and providing technical assistance to coalition membership and tribal communities to enhance access to essential services to American Indian women victimized by domestic and sexual violence; and (D) assisting tribes in developing and promoting state, local, and tribal legislation and policies that enhance best practices for responding to violent crimes against Indian women. Sexual assault coalitions are eligible for additional funds with some additional purposes.
Required Documentation
Non-profit organizations must be an organization that is described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and is exempt from taxation under section 501(a) of that Code. All such applicants are required to submit a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service recognizing their tax-exempt status.
