💡 Tips for applicants
- Focus your application on the specific emergency planning zone requirements for your jurisdiction. Clearly identify which nuclear facility your plan addresses.
- Demonstrate coordination with other local agencies. Multi-jurisdictional planning and exercise participation strengthen competitiveness.
- Link all activities directly to off-site response and recovery from a nuclear accident. Avoid general emergency preparedness not tied to radiological hazards.
- Use data and past exercise results to show gaps in current planning. Evidence of need increases your chances.
- Submit early and ensure all documents match the format and structure specified in the GATA catalog requirements.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications fail when they request activities outside the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone or unrelated to nuclear power plant scenarios. Incomplete budgets and vague descriptions of training or exercise activities are common rejections. Weak evidence of local government coordination or unclear links to off-site disaster response also hurt competitiveness.
