💡 Tips for applicants
- Demonstrate existing relationships with transportation agencies and small business networks in your region. Strong partnerships strengthen your application.
- Emphasize your ability to report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) accurately. USDOT requires detailed tracking and reporting of business assistance metrics.
- Show track record with small business technical assistance, contracting support, or economic development. Prior relevant experience is highly competitive.
- Attend the USDOT informational webinar to clarify requirements and learn what OSDBU specifically expects from applicants.
- Build your application around the exact Region 4 states. Tailor your outreach plans to those specific geographies and industries.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applying from outside Region 4 or without 501(c)(3)/501(c)(6) status makes you ineligible. Not demonstrating relationships with transportation agencies, financial institutions, and prime contractors weakens competitiveness. Vague KPI reporting plans or weak capacity to track business outcomes will hurt your score.
