💡 Tips for applicants
- Emphasize how your project advances museum practice broadly, not just your institution. Funders reward ideas that other museums can adopt.
- Show clear evidence of need. Reference field research or practitioner feedback supporting your project focus.
- Use new or emerging technologies strategically. Avoid including technology just for novelty; connect it to your project goals.
- Plan for dissemination. Budget resources to share findings, tools, and lessons learned with the wider museum field.
- Budget your cost share carefully. It must be documented and realistic. Institutional leadership should endorse the commitment.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Focusing only on internal institutional benefits rather than field-wide impact. Applications must show how other museums will benefit.
Underestimating the cost share requirement or failing to secure documented institutional commitment. Reviewers verify cost sharing feasibility.
Proposing vague or incremental projects without clear evidence of field need. Strengthen the problem statement with research and stakeholder input.
