Program description
Reimbursement is reserved for Tier 1 offenses. Tier 1 offenses are defined as felony offenses of violence that involve substantial risk to public or officer safety and also include the misdemeanor offenses of domestic violence and aggravated menacing. Tier 1 offenses are listed on page 2. OCJS may consider other limited offenses to be related to Tier 1 and possibly eligible for reimbursement. Questions on whether a non-Tier 1 offense is eligible for reimbursement should be directed to OCJS staff identified in FAQ#12. In addition to Tier 1 offenses, Governor DeWine’s Ohio Missing Persons Working Group issued a report and recommendation in May of 2025 that the Prisoner Extradition Reimbursement program should allow funds to pay LE for costs associated with returning interference with custody suspects to Ohio. (See Recommendation #7.) Accordingly, as of July of 2025, interference with custody cases will also be eligible for reimbursement. At this time, there is no maximum amount limit per extradition. Also, there is no application limit per agency. The program may require adjustments based on usage and available funds; therefore, OCJS reserves the right to adjust these funding guidelines at any time.
