Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. There is no specific end date mentioned. Check with MDT-SHTSS for current status.
What activities are eligible?
High visibility enforcement tied to national mobilization campaigns and high-risk events. Examples include holiday periods or fatality reduction initiatives.
How competitive are these awards?
Competition depends on the number of applications and available funding. Focus your application on measurable enforcement activities during mobilization periods.
💡 Tips for applicants
- Contact Kevin Dusko at (406) 444-7411 or kedusko@mt.gov before applying to confirm your agency's eligibility and get current deadlines.
- Clearly connect your proposed enforcement activities to specific National Mobilization periods or documented high-risk traffic events in your jurisdiction.
- Explain how you will track and report increased enforcement activity (citations issued, hours worked, locations).
- Emphasize behavioral safety outcomes like reduced crashes or injuries, not just enforcement volume.
- Submit early since this is a rolling deadline—don't assume funding will remain available late in the fiscal year.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications fail when they propose general enforcement without clear ties to national mobilization periods or high-risk events. Many applicants underestimate the reporting requirements for tracking enforcement activities and outcomes. Weak applications lack specific plans for how the $8,500 will be spent on increased staffing or operations.
