💡 Tips for applicants
- Submit your Letter of Intent early. The December 15 deadline is firm, and this is your entry point to the program.
- Document your erosion problem clearly. Include photos, geological assessments, and impact data on property and public access.
- Understand the cost-sharing structure upfront. Know what your local sponsor must contribute versus state coverage.
- Coordinate with Army Corps of Engineers early if your project seeks federal co-funding. Their requirements shape your project scope.
- Align your project timeline with state and federal review cycles. Shoreline projects often need environmental and permitting approval.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Submitting a LOI without clear documentation of the erosion problem or project scope. Underestimating local cost-share obligations or failing to secure sponsor commitment. Assuming state funding covers more than 50% of project costs without understanding federal co-funding mechanics.
