Program description
This funding announcement is open for organizations who successfully submitted to Opportunity VA-SPORTS-26 to submit an amendment to the grant application package, as described under 38 C.F.R. 77.6. As described in the VA-SPORTS-26 Notice of Funding Opportunity:
An amendment submitted after the application submission deadline and prior to the grant award cannot change the scope of the original application or increase the amount of the grant requested by more than a total of 10-percent. An applicant seeking to amend its grant application must submit a narrative description of, and clear justification for, the requested changes, and a revised Standard Form 424 (Application for Federal Assistance). Amendments submitted after the application submission deadline will not be considered during the Administrative or Merit Review stages. Consideration of amendments will only occur for applications that progress to the Programmatic Review stage.
Application package submitted prior to the submission deadline for VA-SPORTS-26 will be used for consideration in both the Administrative and Merit Review stages.
When submitting, organizations must select Revision on the SF424 and list the Grants.gov # for originally submitted application (GRANT#######) in the “If Revision, select appropriate letter(s)” field.

FAQ
Who is eligible to apply for this amendment opportunity?
Only organizations that successfully submitted a complete application to the original VA-SPORTS-26 opportunity are eligible to submit an amendment.
Can I increase the amount I'm requesting?
Amendments cannot increase the grant amount by more than 10% of the original request. You also cannot change the scope of the original application.
When is the deadline?
The deadline is June 19, 2026. Amendments submitted after this date will only be considered during Programmatic Review, not earlier review stages.
What documents do I need to submit?
Submit a narrative justification for the requested changes and a revised SF-424 form with "Revision" selected and your original Grants.gov number listed.
When will my amendment be reviewed?
If submitted by the deadline, your original application is used for all review stages. Late amendments are only considered during Programmatic Review if your application advances that far.
💡 Tips for applicants
- Clearly justify why each change is necessary; vague rationale leads to rejection.
- Document your original request amount carefully; the 10% increase cap is strictly enforced.
- Submit before the deadline to ensure consideration at all review stages, not just Programmatic Review.
- Use the exact Grants.gov number from your original VA-SPORTS-26 submission on the SF-424.
- Keep the narrative concise and focus only on substantive changes to the original proposal.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Amendments that exceed the 10% increase cap are rejected outright. Failing to properly document the original Grants.gov number delays processing. Submitting changes unrelated to the original scope violates amendment rules.
