Can you apply?
This grant is for researchers and institutions conducting nutrition science across all life stages. Eligible applicants include academic institutions, research hospitals, and nonprofits with research capacity. The program supports research on nutrition's role in health and disease prevention. Projects may focus on any age group from infancy through older adulthood.
The NIH requires applicants to have institutional infrastructure for conducting research. Grants typically fund project-based research rather than general operating costs. International research institutions may be eligible under specific NIH policies.
Priority goes to projects addressing nutrition-related public health disparities. Both basic science and applied nutrition research are supported.

Program description
The purpose of this notice is to inform the research community that the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), with other NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs) listed above, intends to publish a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for research on Advancing Nutrition-related Research Across the Lifespan.
This initiative will solicit applications to support the development and evaluation of rigorous research that examines social determinants of health (SDOH) to improve nutrition-related health outcomes and reduce related health disparities across the lifespan (prenatal, early childhood, adolescence, adults, and aging populations). This initiative aims to harness nursing science to narrow critical gaps by advancing research to accelerate progress in reducing disparities and improving nutritional health for all.

💡 Tips for applicants
- Align your research question directly to the lifespan nutrition focus in the grant description.
- Demonstrate how your project addresses a specific nutrition-related health gap or disparity.
- Include letters of institutional support showing commitment of resources and facilities.
- Build a multidisciplinary team with expertise in nutrition, biostatistics, and relevant health domains.
- Submit your application well before the deadline to allow time for institutional review processes.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Weak preliminary data or lack of published evidence for your research approach. Unfocused scope that tries to address too many nutrition topics instead of one clear question. Underestimating required institutional infrastructure and support letters.
