This grant is for research organizations testing California's Forest Practice Rules and related regulations. Eligible applicants include state and federal agencies, universities, special purpose districts, tribes, private landowners, for-profit entities, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Projects must address one of the Effectiveness Monitoring Committee's 12 research themes and critical monitoring questions. Work must apply to private timberlands in California or public lands demonstrating applicability to non-federal forestry systems.
Proposals must test specific FPRs or Board regulations addressing natural resource protection priorities. These include wildland-urban interface fire behavior, sediment management, anadromous salmon habitat, fuel reduction, and forest climate resilience. Projects spanning multiple fiscal years are permitted up to annual funding caps. Longer-term work beyond three years may reapply competitively.
No cost-sharing is required. Annual funding ranges: $188,202 (FY 2025/26), $315,132 (FY 2026/27), and $425,000 (FY 2027/28). Applicants requesting more than annual caps will not be considered.

Program description
Project Scope: The Beet Curly Top Virus Control Program (BCTVCP) may consider funding projects that develop new management methods for treating the beet leafhopper (BLH), the primary vector of the beet curly top virus or development of enhancements to other program areas that will mitigate the virus. Priorities: The funding will be based on the researcher using a no pesticide alternative or Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) approved pesticides registered for use in CA on BLH and/or on rangeland/hillside. Application Deadlines: Proposals must be submitted 30 days prior to posted meetings of Beet Curly Top Virus Control Board or Beet Curly Top Virus Control Board Diagnostics Subcommittee posted at www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/Meetings
