Description

Under the ARDRAW program, SSA competitively awards a five year cooperative agreement to an educational, policy, or research institution for a grant program to distribute small stipends to graduate students for innovative research relevant to rehabilitation, work and the disability program. SSA management will identify suggested priority areas of interest for each competition. SSA funding will support graduate students in producing a thesis or
written project that will expand knowledge and understanding of the disability program. The
grant program requires that the institution assign an individual or team to serve as program
manager to coordinate the research projects. The cooperative agreements are funded annually. There are two components to this program: 1) a program manager to manage the program and award stipends to individual graduate students, and 2) the graduate students who will
conduct research on these disability related issues.

Note: This program was terminated in February 2025, per Executive Order 14151, “Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing.” All unspent FY25 were deobligated in December 2025.
