Program Objective
The purpose of the Graduate Psychology Education Program is to train doctoral health service psychology students, interns, and postdoctoral residents in integrated, interdisciplinary behavioral health. The program focuses on opioid use disorder (OUD) and other substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, treatment, and recovery services, and trauma informed care. The program prepares trainees for practice in community-based primary care settings in high need and high demand areas, including in underserved and rural communities. The program also requires development for health service psychology faculty.

Eligible applicants are accredited doctoral, internship, and/or post-doctoral residency programs of health service psychology (including clinical psychology, counseling, and school psychology). The training program must be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency, approved for such purposes by the U.S. Department of Education. Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Government and Native American Organizations may apply if otherwise eligible.

Doctoral students, doctoral interns, and post-doctoral residents receiving a stipend in the GPE Program must be a citizen of the United States, a non-citizen national of the United States, an individual lawfully admitted for permanent residence to the United States, and any other “qualified alien” under section 431(b) of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, Pub. L. 104-193, as amended.

Allowed Uses
Eligible entities are required to provide a budget, with narrative, that includes no less than fifty (50) percent of a recipient’s overall requested budget (direct and indirect costs) for Participant/Trainee Support including stipends, tuition, health insurance, training supplies and materials, and travel-related expenses for training purposes.
All other costs related to program management must be budgeted out of the remaining 50 percent or less.
Restrictions
Indirect costs under training awards cannot exceed 8 percent of modified total direct costs.
