FY2025 LLiving Organ Donation Reimbursement Program (LODRP): Between September 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025, the LODRP received 2,269 applications for reimbursement, approving over 90 percent of them, and facilitated 1,285 living organ transplants.

Public Education for Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program (PE-LODRP): This is a new program with a goal to increase access to, and awareness of, financial assistance for living organ donation, particularly among medically underserved communities, through outreach and education. There are no accomplishments yet.

Program Objective

Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program: The goal of this program is to provide reimbursement for qualified expenses to eligible living organ donors effectively and efficiently, in accordance with established program eligibility guidelines.

Public Education for Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program: The goal of this program is to increase access to financial support for potential living organ donors, particularly individuals from medically underserved communities.

Description

Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program: This national program provides reimbursement for qualified expenses associated with living organ donation, including dependent care, lost wages, and travel for evaluation, surgery, and follow-up visits. The current three-year cooperative agreement (September 1, 2025 – August 31, 2028) was awarded in FY 2025. Public Education for Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program: HRSA awarded one cooperative agreement in FY 2025 to increase access to financial support for potential living organ donors, particularly those from medically underserved communities. The current cooperative agreement runs from September 1, 2025 through August 31, 2028.

Restrictions

Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program : Funds made available through this program cannot be used for the following purposes: 1) To reimburse prospective or current living organ donors when payment for qualified reimbursement expenses has been made, or can reasonably be expected to be made: (1) under any State compensation program, under an insurance policy, or under any Federal or State health benefits program; (2) by an entity that provides health services on a prepaid basis; or (3) by the recipient of the organ. 2) Reimbursement of blood, marrow, or tissue donation expenses. 3) Construction. 4) Equipment not related to project activities. Public Education for Living Organ Donation Reimbursement Program: Funds made available through this program cannot be used for the following purposes: 1) Education/outreach related to the reimbursement of blood, marrow, or tissue donation expenses. 2) Construction. 3) Equipment not related to project activities. 4) The direct provision of clinical services. Please note that the purpose of this program is to fund outreach and educational activities only.
