Program Objective

In response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster, the primary objective of this program is to disburse civil penalty funds from the Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund to the RESTORE Council and its members for the purpose of restoring and protecting the natural resources, ecosystems, fisheries, marine and wildlife habitats, beaches, coastal wetlands, and economy of the Gulf Coast region.

Members of the RESTORE Council are eligible to apply for funding. Council members are the Governors of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Secretaries of the U.S. Departments of the Interior, Commerce, Agriculture, Homeland Security, and the Army.

Eligible proposals are approved by the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council in accordance with the RESTORE Act (33 USC 1321(t)).
