Program Objective
The EPA Region 6 Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) program assist federal, state, and local partners to develop, design, and build Louisiana coastal restoration projects. Since 1990, EPA has sponsored the engineering, design, and construction of projects benefiting some 13,000 acres of restored or protected wetlands, marshes, headlands, and barrier islands. EPA Region 6 is one of five federal agencies working with the State of Louisiana to restore coastal Louisiana wetlands.

How to Apply
Award Procedure
Applications are evaluated by the appropriate EPA office and are subject to review for technical merit, soundness of design, and reasonableness of proposed costs. Approved projects are awarded by the Regional Administrator.
Assistance agreements are usually approved within five months of receipt of a complete application.

The Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) program protects, restores and enhances coastal wetlands ecosystems through strategic “natural” reintroduction of river water, barrier island/shoreline restoration and application of innovative technologies such as pipeline delivery of new sediment.

Funds are to be used to protect, restore and enhance coastal wetlands ecosystems through strategic "natural" reintroduction of river water, barrier island/shoreline restoration and application of innovative technologies such as pipeline delivery of new sediment. Assistance agreement awards under this program may involve or relate to geospatial information. Geospatial information is information that identifies the geographic location and characteristics of natural or constructed features or boundaries on the earth, or applications, tools, and hardware associated with the generation, maintenance, or distribution of such information. This information may be derived from, among other things, GPS, remote sensing, mapping, charting, and surveying technologies, or statistical data. A discretionary award means an award in which the Federal awarding agency, in keeping with specific statutory authority that enables the agency to exercise judgement (“discretion”), selects the recipient and/or the amount of Federal funding awarded through a competitive process or based on merit of proposals. Matching Requirements
CWPPRA projects require a 15 percent match of the State or local government of which 5% must be submitted in cash to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District. These funds are put in an escrow account for the project. Colleges or Universities awarded a grant in support of a CWPPRA project require a 5% match.
