Program Objective

This Assistance Listing encompasses two transportation training and education programs:

1) National Highway Institute (NHI) Training Program: To develop and administer, in cooperation with those in the highway community, educational, training, and technical assistance for the Federal Highway Administration, State and local highway agency employees, the private sector and members of international organizations.

2) Transportation Education and Training Development and Deployment Program (TETDDP): To develop and implement innovative transportation education and workforce development programs at all levels of transportation.

Depends on the program:

1) NHI Training Program: Eligible participants in NHI training courses include employees of the Federal Highway Administration and other applicable Federal agencies; State and local transportation agencies; State and local police, public safety, and motor vehicle employees; and United States citizens and foreign nationals engaged or to be engaged in surface transportation work of interest to the United States.

2) DDETFP: Eligible participants in DDETFP include undergraduate and graduate students at institutions of higher education that are majoring in a transportation-related discipline and conducting transportation-related research.

3) TETDDP: Makes grants available to educational institutions or State Departments of Transportation to develop, test, and review new curricula and education programs to train individuals at all levels of the transportation workforce; or to implement the new curricula and education programs to provide for hands-on career opportunities to meet current and future needs.

4) GAMTTEP: Makes grants available to improve the preparation of students, particularly women and minorities, in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through curriculum development and other activities related to transportation.
