Program goal(s) name: Protect the public from convicted sex offenders
Program goal(s) description: Protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing and implementing a set of comprehensive standards and a national system for sex offender registration and notification.
Program objective(s) name: Improve implementation of SORNA to protect the public from convicted sex offenders.
Program objective(s) description: For jurisdictions that have substantially implemented SORNA, support continued implementation, enhance registration programs, and address any SORNA requirements that are not yet met. For jurisdictions that have not yet substantially implemented SORNA, support the jurisdiction’s efforts to substantially implement SORNA; Assist criminal justice professionals across the entire spectrum of sex offender management activities needed to prevent sexual violence and ensure public safety; and provide the public with information about registered sex offenders and facilitate information sharing among jurisdictions through participation in the National Sex Offender Public Website.

Award Procedure

All final award decisions will be made by the Assistant Attorney General, unless a statute explicitly authorizes award decisions by another official or there is written delegation of authority to another official. For successful applicants, JustGrants will send a system-generated email to the Application Submitter, Authorized Representative, and Entity Administrator with information on accessing their official award package in JustGrants. The award package will include key information (such as funding amount and period of performance) as well as award conditions that must be followed. The Authorized Representative for the entity should accept or decline the award within 45 days of the notification.

  • Approval: From 120 to 180 days

The review procedure for applications is specified in the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) and generally includes eligibility and responsiveness, merit, programmatic, budget, and risk reviews.

Description

To assist states, the District of Columbia, principal U.S. territories, and Tribes with developing and/or enhancing programs designed to implement requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (AWA); to fund other grant programs that support AWA; and to provide for the maintenance and operation of the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW.gov).
