Program Objective

Program goal(s) name: Prevent and reduce youth gang involvement and youth gang violence.
Program goal(s) description: provides funding to support state and local efforts to plan, establish, operate, coordinate, and evaluate policies and projects, directly or through grants and contracts with public and private agencies, for the development of more effective education, training, research, prevention, diversion, treatment, and rehabilitation, compliance with the core requirements and overall juvenile justice system improvement efforts.
Program objective(s) name: Implement prevention and suppression strategies to decrease violence and gang involvement
Program objective(s) description: Implement intervention strategies that prevent youth from joining gangs and help them to discontinue their involvement with gangs and violence; implement suppression strategies to address youth gang violence; reduce and sustain reductions in community youth violence, particularly gun and gang violence, and victimization; convene a task force or working group (this may be an existing group) that meets regularly throughout the project period to identify and address service gaps and barriers and integrates funded projects with other existing state/local youth crime reduction efforts.

Award Procedure

All final award decisions will be made by the Assistant Attorney General, unless a statute explicitly authorizes award decisions by another official or there is written delegation of authority to another official. For successful applicants, JustGrants will send a system-generated email to the Application Submitter, Authorized Representative, and Entity Administrator with information on accessing their official award package in JustGrants. The award package will include key information (such as funding amount and period of performance) as well as award conditions that must be followed. The Authorized Representative for the entity should accept or decline the award within 45 days of the notification.

  • Approval: From 120 to 180 days

The review procedure for applications is specified in the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) and generally includes eligibility and responsiveness, merit, programmatic, budget, and risk reviews.

Description

This program supports the implementation of intervention and suppression strategies to reduce youth gang crime and violence and promote public safety. These strategies will help to prevent youth from joining gangs, discontinue involvement in gangs, and prevent and reduce youth gang violence.
