Program Objective

To design and construct the City of Wichita’s Aquifer Storage and Recovery project to divert flood flows from the Little Arkansas River into the Equus Beds Aquifer in order to recover depleted storage and protect the Aquifer.

How to Apply

Application Procedure

Annual work plans and a budget are submitted annually. Applicant must submit annual progress and expenditure reports along with a SF-425.

Award Procedure

The Missouri Basin Regional Office approves award and distribution of award.

Use of Funds

Allowed Uses

The program exists to provide funding (as appropriated by Congress) to the city of Wichita for reimbursement of the design and construction of the City’s ASR project to divert flood flows from the Little Arkansas River into the Equus Beds Aquifer in order to recover depleted storage and protect the Aquifer. Authority terminates 10 years from enactment of P.L 109-299. The City of Wichita will hold title to all facilities.

Matching Requirements

There is authorization to be appropriated as the Federal share of the total cost of the Equus Beds Division, an amount not to exceed 25 percent of the total cost or $30,000,000 (January, 2003 prices), whichever is less, plus or minus such amounts, if any, as may be justified by reason of ordinary fluctuations in construction costs as indicated by engineering cost indexes applicable to the type of construction involved herein, whichever is less. Such sums shall be non-reimbursable.
