Program Objective
The Office of Insular Affairs carries out the Secretary of the Interior's responsibilities for U.S.-affiliated insular areas. The American Samoa Government (ASG) does not have sufficient local revenues to fund the entire operating costs of its government. The purpose of this program activity is to fund the difference between ASG's budget needs and local revenues. The Department defines “budget needs” as the cost of maintaining current programs and services.
