Description

NIST’s Forensic Science Program strengthens the scientific basis of forensic science methods, standards, and practices. The program funds work in areas such as creating new materials standards; verifying methodology; evaluating new technologies for forensic science disciplines (such as biometrics, digital evidence, drugs and toxins, evidential statistics, firearms and toolmarks, forensic genetics, quality assurance, and trace analysis); facilitating knowledge exchange and identifying best practices; interlaboratory comparisons, forensic science discipline-specific process maps, forensic science standards-related training materials, work products that enable more rapid implementation of standards listed on the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) for Forensic Science Registry, and workshops to address specific forensic science standards gaps.
