FY2025 The program has supported the planting and care of more than 768,000 trees, provided hazard mitigation for over 43,000 trees, and conducted new or updated inventories for nearly 375,000 trees. It has also helped restore more than 1,700 acres of local parks, natural areas, and greenspaces, while training more than 2,500 youth and adults to work in urban and community forestry and natural resource management.

Inflation Reduction Act Urban and Community Forestry results are to primarily benefit, local disadvantaged communities, Tribal organizations; applicable non-profit organizations, and applicable faith-based organizations. Secondary beneficiaries would include local, regional communities, State, non- profit organizations, and other equivalent State agencies or other official representatives.

Applications will be accepted through the Washington Office Urban and Community Forestry Program. Selected applicants will be notified and awarded.

Description

To assist State Foresters, equivalent State agencies, Tribal nations, interested members of the public and private non-profit organizations in urban and community forestry programs in cities and communities. To provide multiyear, programmatic, competitive grants to a State agency, a local governmental entity, an agency or governmental entity of the District of Columbia, an agency or governmental entity of an insular area (as defined in section 1404 of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 3103)), an Indian Tribe, or a nonprofit organization.

Use of Funds

Allowed Uses

Funding is to provide grants to assist disadvantaged communities that have little to no tree canopy cover. It includes tree planting and related activities.

Restrictions

Construction is prohibited with this funding.

Matching Requirements

Applicant matching requirements are determined by the Washington office. If matching funds are required, the funds cannot come from Federal Sources. Cooperator matches may be non-Federal cash, in-kind and non-cash contributions. Matching requirements may range from 0 percent to 50 percent of the total award.

Matching funds may not come from other federal sources. The non-Federal share of the match may be in the form of cash, services and/or in-kind contributions.
