Funded Projects

Examples of what this program has supported.

FY2025 The program provided technical, financial, research, and educational support directly and through state Urban and Community Forestry partners to municipalities and urban forestry organizations across all U.S. states, territories, and Freely Associated States. As a result of this assistance, communities reported 4,953 management plans, 5,182 professional forestry staff, 9,968 tree ordinances, and 7,489 active advisory groups such as tree commissions. More than one million volunteer service hours were recorded, and nearly 2,000 communities received financial assistance through state-managed community grant programs.

Program Objective

This program supports the health and expansion of urban and community forests to improve environmental quality, conserve energy, improve air quality, and enhance community well-being. It provides financial, technical, and educational assistance to states, local governments, and nonprofit organizations for tree planting, maintenance, utilization, and public outreach. The program also administers competitive cost-share grants and works with the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council to develop a national action plan, set research priorities, and promote best practices for urban forestry across the United States.
