FY2026 The 2026 current law estimate assumes $2,993,543,000 for the Nutrition Assistance Program for Puerto Rico. Section 19(b) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, as amended, provides a block grant to Puerto Rico to administer NAP benefits.

Program Objective

An alternative to the Special Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to provide access to healthy food by needy persons residing in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico alone is eligible.

Beneficiaries

  • Resident/Citizen of U.S. Territory

Low-income individuals and households are eligible for benefits as determined by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico

Application Procedure

Funding is provided via a federal/state agreement.

Award Procedure

United States (US) Congress awards the grant to Puerto Rico every fiscal year. US Department of Agriculture (USDA) designates the Commonwealth's agency or agencies to operate the program upon submission of the request thru a Federal State Agreement signed by USDA and by The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico's Department of the Family.
