Funded Projects

Examples of what this program has supported.

FY2025 HRSA supports each of the 53 poison centers in the U.S. through stabilization grants. These centers serve all 50 states and multiple U.S. territories, responding to more than two million human exposure cases each year and receiving, on average, an exposure case every 15 seconds. The Poison Help Line (1-800-222-1222) is available 24/7/365 at no cost, directing callers to their local poison center to speak with a nurse, doctor, or pharmacist poison expert. Calls to poison centers via the Poison Help Line can save trips to the hospital, as 9 out of 10 human exposure cases that occur at home are managed at home. The Poison Help Line is also frequently used by health care providers, with nearly a quarter of calls originating from a health care facility. To increase public awareness of their availability and services, HRSA widely and regularly promotes the Poison Help Line and the www.poisonhelp.org website through social media, videos, radio and podcasts, and more.
