💡 Tips for applicants
- Review the full NOFO carefully to identify which strategic themes match your project. Generic public diplomacy proposals are less competitive.
- Build relationships with the embassy's Public Diplomacy Section before submitting. Informal conversation improves alignment and competitiveness.
- Keep budgets realistic and justified. Reviewers scrutinize how efficiently funds advance stated diplomatic objectives.
- Demonstrate concrete outcomes: events, publications, partnerships, or dialogue opportunities. Vague impact statements weaken applications.
- Submit early if rolling review is available. August deadlines mean summer competition—submit before summer breaks begin.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applications lack specificity about which embassy strategic priorities the project addresses. Budgets include inflated overhead or unclear line items that don't connect to deliverables. Applicants propose U.S.-focused activities instead of U.K.-based work that strengthens bilateral relations.
