💡 Tips for applicants
- Clearly demonstrate how rail service expansion will benefit a specific business or industry in your region. Quantify economic impact if possible.
- Prepare detailed engineering plans and cost estimates for track work or site preparation. Vague project descriptions weaken competitiveness.
- Document your 30% local match in advance. Show committed funding sources rather than proposed or uncertain matches.
- Partner with the railroad operator early. Their support and buy-in strengthen your application credibility.
- Submit applications early in the fiscal year. Rolling deadlines mean funding can deplete; early submission improves approval chances.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Proposing projects without confirmed railroad operator support or participation. Underestimating the 30% grantee match requirement or failing to document committed funding sources. Submitting incomplete engineering plans or vague project scope without clear deliverables and timelines.
