This grant is for regional water management projects in California. IRWM Region representatives apply on behalf of Local Project Sponsors, who must meet guidelines and adopt the IRWM Plan. Projects must be listed in an adopted IRWM Plan consistent with 2016 standards.
Projects may include water reuse, conservation, storage, conveyance, watershed protection, stormwater management, desalination, water quality improvement, and decision support tools. All agencies proposing projects must individually adopt the IRWM Plan.
The program covers 48 IRWM regions across California. At least 10% of funds support Disadvantaged Communities. Eligible applicants include IRWM Region representatives and Local Project Sponsors meeting 2019 program guidelines.

Program description
The California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018 (Proposition 68) provides funding to award grants to projects that improve a community’s ability to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change; improve and protect coastal and rural economies, agricultural viability, wildlife corridors, or habitat; develop future recreational opportunities; or enhance drought tolerance, landscape resilience, and water retention. Project priorities include, but are not limited to, reconnection of rivers with their floodplains, riparian and side-channel habitat restoration, and restoration and protection of upper watershed forests and meadow systems that are important for fish and wildlife resources.
