💡 Tips for applicants
- Start by confirming your tribe has an EPA-approved Section 319(b) Nonpoint Source Management Program Plan before applying.
- Document which specific NPS pollution sources your project addresses from your Assessment Report.
- Build strong partnerships with state environmental agencies and other water quality programs for support.
- Identify cost-sharing partners early; grants require matching funds from non-federal sources.
- Develop a detailed timeline showing how BMPs will be implemented and water quality improvements measured.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applying without an EPA-approved NPS Management Program Plan; EPA won't fund tribes without this prerequisite documentation. Underestimating cost-share requirements or failing to secure matching funds before application. Proposing activities not explicitly outlined in your approved tribal NPS management plan.
