FAQ
Who can serve as Principal Investigator?
Any researcher with a doctoral degree and appropriate institutional affiliation. However, one PI may lead only one FY26 ERP Leveraging Research Award application.
What type of research is eligible?
Basic, translational, or clinical research that repurposes existing cohorts, resources, tools, or interventions for PTE study. The existing resource must not have previously focused on PTE.
When is the deadline?
August 17, 2026. This is a fixed deadline; no rolling submissions.
How much funding is available?
Total program pool is $1.6 million. Individual award amounts vary by project scope.
What documents must I submit?
Typical Army research grants require SF-424, project narrative, budget justification, and biosketches. Check the RFP for specific formatting requirements.
💡 Tips for applicants
- Emphasize how you are repurposing existing resources rather than starting new infrastructure. This is the core of the leveraging mechanism.
- Show clear connection between your existing cohort or tool and post-traumatic epilepsy research. Explain what is new about the application.
- Highlight the advantage of using established resources versus building from scratch. Cost efficiency and timeline matter.
- Verify your institution's CAGE code and ensure all team members have current biosketches and conflict-of-interest forms.
- Submit early if possible. Army grants are often oversubscribed, and technical issues near deadline can occur.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Proposing a completely new cohort or resource instead of leveraging existing infrastructure. Submitting as co-PI or PI on multiple FY26 ERP Leveraging applications when only one PI role is allowed per investigator. Unclear description of how the existing resource connects to PTE research.
