💡 Tips for applicants

  • Focus on practical, implementable solutions rather than purely theoretical research. Show how results will benefit California winegrape growers.
  • Form multidisciplinary teams combining researchers from different fields. Collaborative projects are explicitly encouraged.
  • Demonstrate clear connection to winegrape industry needs. Align your project with existing pest and disease priorities.
  • Include outreach and adoption pathways in your proposal. Explain how findings will reach and be used by growers.
  • Address one of the specifically named pests or diseases. Projects on Pierce's disease, glassy-winged sharpshooter, leafroll, or red blotch have direct relevance.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Proposing purely theoretical research without practical application pathways for California growers. Submitting single-discipline projects when multidisciplinary approaches are encouraged. Failing to connect research outcomes to specific industry adoption or implementation plans.
