Program description

The State of Ohio is distributing Coronavirus Relief Funds provided to the state from the US Department of Treasury as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”). The Ohio Office of Budget and Management, in consultation with the Ohio Humanities Council, are providing economic support to eligible public humanities organizations that have financial impacts as a result of the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted public humanities organizations across Ohio. These payments are therefore necessary expenditures to compensate for business interruptions and to preserve valuable cultural assets across the state that were financially impacted by the pandemic. Public humanities organizations have incurred significant losses, continue to incur losses, and are experiencing additional costs due to the pandemic, making these payments necessary to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The losses are due to a variety of factors including costs related to creating social distancing at venues, personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff and patrons, updates to facilities to mitigate the spread of COVID, and lost revenue for venues that were or continue to be shuttered.
