💡 Tips for applicants

  • Clearly document your organization's prior experience with waterfowl habitat projects. Past success matters.
  • Align your project to specific California waterfowl species and their known habitat needs.
  • Include realistic timelines and measurable outcomes for habitat restoration or research work.
  • Submit letters of support from resource agencies or conservation partners involved in the project.
  • Budget for long-term habitat monitoring and maintenance costs, not just initial construction.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Applications lack documented experience in waterfowl habitat work. Projects fail to identify specific California waterfowl species or populations served. Budgets underestimate habitat maintenance costs or provide vague activity descriptions.
