💡 Tips for applicants

  • Connect your project directly to California's fire prevention or wildfire resiliency goals. Show how your workforce directly supports state priorities.
  • Build partnerships with local fire departments, CAL FIRE, or forestry employers. Letters of support strengthen your application.
  • Include clear workforce outcome metrics: how many participants will complete training, find jobs, or advance in forest-industry careers.
  • Detail participant support services like stipends, safety equipment, or transportation that help low-income workers complete training.
  • Align your budget with actual program costs. Reviewers expect realistic staffing, equipment, and participant support expenses.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Failing to connect workforce activities clearly to fire prevention or wildfire resiliency outcomes. Underestimating participant support costs needed for low-income trainees to complete programs. Lacking employer partnerships or job placement commitments from local fire agencies or forestry companies.
