This grant is for stand-alone forest health and fire science research projects in California. Eligible applicants include universities, research institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies conducting research that directly addresses California forest ecosystems. Projects must focus on one or more of the seven priority research topics, from disturbance recovery and management strategies to wildfire prediction and ecological monitoring of vegetation treatments. No cost-sharing is required, and proposals must be submitted in a two-stage process (concept proposal first, then invited full proposal).
Geographic scope is limited to research relevant to California ecosystems and their management.

Program description
The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is the result of the 2002 voter-approved initiative, Proposition 49. The application is for new grantees as well as existing grant recipients who wish to increase funding.
