💡 Tips for applicants

  • Emphasize cultural responsiveness and trauma-informed approaches in your proposed services. Reviewers prioritize respect for AI/AN traditions and healing practices.
  • Show how your organization will integrate behavioral health with primary care, not operate it separately. Care coordination is central to this program.
  • Document your existing healthcare infrastructure and capacity to deliver integrated services. Demonstrate staff expertise in behavioral health.
  • Include specific metrics showing how your project will improve access and reduce disparities for the AI/AN population you serve.
  • Build strong partnerships with community leaders and cultural advisors. This program values community-driven solutions.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Proposals that treat behavioral health as a separate service rather than integrated with primary care and community supports. Applications without clear evidence of cultural responsiveness and community engagement in program design. Projects lacking specific measurable outcomes for access, early identification, and health improvements in AI/AN populations.
