This grant is for sustainable, transformative projects in the 32-county Appalachian region of Ohio. Eligible lead applicants must operate in and conduct projects within these 32 Appalachian counties. Projects must address infrastructure, workforce development, and/or healthcare needs.
Public and nonprofit organizations serving Ohio's Appalachian region could apply. Projects must demonstrate potential for transformational change and generational impact. The program supports both planning grants and development grants for eligible communities.
Program description
The Appalachian Community Grant Program was created to fund sustainable, transformative projects in the 32 counties of the Appalachian region of Ohio. This $500 million program provides planning and development grants for eligible communities. Program funds are provided by Ohio’s designation of American Rescue Plan Act State Fiscal Recovery Fund dollars. The program is administered by the Governor’s Office of Appalachia within the Ohio Department of Development. Projects should be designed to bring about transformational change and be a catalyst for future development by providing generational investments in the Appalachian region. Each planning and development grant application must address one or more of the following components: infrastructure, workforce, and healthcare. Eligible lead applicants must operate in and the project must occur within the 32-county Appalachian region. Please see guidelines for more details. In the first round of funding, up to $30 million will be awarded for Appalachian Planning Grants, which includes up to $8 million for county Technical Assistance Grants.
