💡 Tips for applicants

  • Focus your proposal on building researcher capacity in multidisciplinary disability and rehabilitation research. Clearly describe how participants will gain advanced research skills.
  • Emphasize outcomes related to community living and participation. Ensure your research training connects to real-world disability community needs.
  • If your team includes researchers with disabilities, highlight this perspective as a strength. NIDILRR values lived experience in rehabilitation research.
  • Budget strategically for a 36-month award. Consider trainee support, mentorship structures, and conference travel to build professional networks.
  • Address how participants will transition to independent researcher roles. Show evidence that your training produces competitive rehabilitation researchers.

⚠️ Common mistakes

Proposals focused narrowly on individual researcher development rather than systemic capacity building. Failure to connect research training to community living and participation outcomes. Applications that lack multidisciplinary research frameworks or don't clearly justify why advanced training is needed.
