💡 Tips for applicants
- Verify your jurisdiction is non-entitlement (did not receive direct HOME funding from HUD) before investing application time.
- Build your budget carefully to meet the $10,000 minimum per unit threshold.
- Include detailed development timelines and financing plans for rental projects.
- For homebuyer programs, demonstrate clear borrower selection criteria and affordability protections.
- Highlight leveraged funding and local support for competitive positioning.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Applying from entitlement jurisdictions that received direct HUD HOME awards. Underestimating per-unit costs below the $10,000 minimum threshold. Weak financial projections or unclear affordability period commitments.
