Program Objective

To increase the number and quality of employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities through training and technical assistance to State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency personnel.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants

  • Public nonprofits

States (includes the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) and public or private nonprofit agencies and organizations, including Indian tribes and institutions of higher education.

How to Apply

Application Procedure

The Secretary gives the designated State agency an opportunity to review and comment on applications submitted from within the State that it serves. The procedures to be followed by the applicant and the State are in 34 CFR 75.155 through 75.159. The Education Department General Administrative Regulations at 34 C.F.R. Part 75 applies to this program.

Award Procedure

New awards are made based upon the results of a peer review process and the review and approval of applications by staff in various offices within the Department.

Allowed Uses

Training grants support projects that provide training, traineeships, and technical assistance (TA) designed to increase the numbers of, and improve the skills of, qualified personnel, especially rehabilitation counselors, who are trained to: provide vocational, medical, social, and psychological rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities; assist individuals with communication and related disorders; and provide other services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act.

Matching Requirements

Grantees are required to share in the cost of projects with the proportion subject to individual negotiation.
