FY2025 The County of Nye, Nye County Sheriff’s Office will accomplish the services outlined in the Statement of Project Objectives to include the protection of any member of the public from safety or security events requiring routine or emergency response actions. Response time will be prioritized according to the nature of the emergency to perform law enforcement activities and as mutually agreed by both parties to enforce all applicable State of Nevada/County of Nye laws.

Program Objective

The objective of the County of Nye, Nye County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Services cooperative agreement is to improve public safety and security at and surrounding the Nevada National Security Site located in Nye County, Nevada. The financial assistance will provide the Nye County Sheriff’s Office financial support to increase its capability and to enhance their law enforcement presence.

The Nevada National Security Site is located entirely within the limits of Nye County, Nevada and in the absence of any alternative authority for the National Nuclear Security Administration, the responsibility for the enforcement of local and state laws on the Nevada National Security Site remain the responsibility of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

The award is approved and awarded by the National Nuclear Security Administration Grant Officer and the financial assistance is reimbursement through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Vendor Inquiry Payment Electronic Reporting (VIPERS).

Description

The County of Nye, Nye County Sheriff’s Office accomplishes a public purpose by providing local law enforcement services to include civil and criminal law enforcement, oversight, control and containment of public protests and demonstrations, and detention of individuals suspected of violations of Federal law until transfer to the appropriate Federal agency in the County of Nye. The Nevada National Security Site is located in the southeastern portion of Nye County in Nevada, approximately 65 miles northwest of the City of Las Vegas.
Having law enforcement officers in proximity to the NNSS is a necessity for public safety and security.

Use of Funds

Allowed Uses

Financial assistance support, in whole or in part, may be provided for salaries, benefits and travel for services incurred to:
• Control and contain public protests and demonstrations.
• Conduct periodic traffic enforcement operations.
• Support the Nevada National Security Site contractor protective force response with trespassers and protestors including lawful detention, citation, arrest and transportation of arrested individuals.
• Investigate and collect evidence of suspected civil and criminal acts within the boundaries of the Nevada National Security Site.
• Assist emergency response personnel in responding to emergencies.

Matching Requirements

County of Nye, Nye County Sheriff's Office will utilize county funds for law enforcement officer uniforms and communication equipment during the performance of the cooperative agreement.
