FY2025 The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) processed 532,502 initial claims for Veterans’ compensation and survivors’ benefits in FY 2025. 476,802 Veterans and 55,700 survivors began receiving compensation benefits in FY 2025 for an average annual individual benefit of $17,450 and $20,949 respectively.

Program Objective

Compensate Veterans for disabilities incurred in or aggravated during military service according to the average impairment in earning capacity such disability would cause in civilian occupations.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants

Persons who have suffered disabilities resulting from service in the Armed Forces of the United States. The disability must have been incurred during or aggravated by service in the line of duty. Separation from service must have been under other than dishonorable conditions for the period in which the disability was incurred or aggravated.

Most applications completed in 180 days or less.
