Program Objective
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs will make grants available to eligible organizations for the provision of transition assistance to members of the Armed Forces who are separated, retired, or discharged from the Armed Forces, and spouses of such members. Examples of transition assistance include resume writing support, interview preparation, job recruitment training and related services, as determined by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Participants served by this program include former members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are separated, retired, or discharged, as well as their spouses. VA recognizes a Veteran’s marriage if the marriage was recognized under the law of the place where at least one of the parties resided when they were married or when the claimant became eligible for benefits. How to Apply
Award Procedure
VA will conduct an objective review of all responsive applications. VA will then make grant awards based on merit. Awarded applicants will receive a Notice of Award. Decision Timeline
- Approval: From 120 to 180 days
A technical merit review panel carefully evaluated applications against the evaluation criteria to determine the merit of applications. These criteria were based on the policy goals, priorities, and emphases set forth in the NOFO. Up to 100 points was awarded to an applicant depending on the quality of the responses provided on the application. The final scores served as the primary basis for the selection of applications for funding.

Description
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs will make grants available to eligible organizations for the provision of transition assistance. Members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are separated, retired, or discharged, as well as their spouses, will benefit from receiving the services provided. Each year approximately 200,000 Service members are separated from the military. Veterans and dependents report significant challenges when transitioning from military to civilian life. To help these Veterans overcome employment and financial challenges, VA will award grants to organizations that will assist Veterans with their transition. These organizations provide the skill-building, resources, and tools they may need to achieve emotional health, physical health, and economic stability in civilian life.

Matching Requirements
This program requires cost sharing or matching funds. VA will fund no more than 50% of the total proposed budget. Applicants proposing budgets above $1,000,000 may apply for no more than $500,000.
