Description

Supported activities fund discoveries that fuel American productivity, empower America’s industries, advance American entrepreneurialism, and strengthen American safety. Supported activities study human systems to advance understanding of computational methodologies, human interactions with physical and built environments, and the creation of jobs and industries using geographic and secure data infrastructure. In collaboration with other scientific disciplines, supported activities further the sciences of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, quantum imaging, and other critical and emerging industries, plus research that measures the impacts of these sciences on individuals, communities, and the workforce. Supported activities contribute to the science of national security, secure borders, and public safety, and they enable decision-makers to better understand and anticipate matters of security and safety, excellence and readiness of the American military, and disaster response. Supported activities also include sciences of economic prosperity and innovation; improving our understanding of competitiveness, growth, and supply chains; and research that addresses issues such as aging and technology, quantum neuroimaging to improve health diagnostics and geospatial mobility, and data science supporting the science of learning. Funding opportunities also seek to support analytic and methodological research in support of surveys and the education and training of researchers in the use of large-scale nationally representative datasets.
